25 Valentine’s Day Activities in Louisville, KY
For that perfect Valentine’s Day, we’ve got you covered. It’s never too early to start planning that perfect day and night of romance!
Share a Très Romantic Meal
Probably the most obvious thing to do for Valentine’s Day is go out for a good meal, which we totally get! Spending a cozy evening with the one you love over a glass of wine and some decadent food you couldn’t make at home… Now you’re making me hungry!
Anyway, here are some great places to get an unforgettable Valentine’s meal:
- Proof on Main: This quirky restaurant in 21c is the perfect place to celebrate Valentine’s Day! Not only is the restaurant top notch with dishes like steamed muscles, grilled swordfish, and bison burgers, but the restaurant is itself a gallery of incredible artwork. Order drinks after your meal from the bar next door and take them with you as you wander through the world-class, free art gallery of 21c, making impressive sounding art critiques. 21c is a perfect Valentine’s date in itself!
- Buck’s Restaurant and Bar: While this restaurant may sound more like it belongs in the sticks of Kentucky, Buck’s in Old Louisville is romance gold! They have a live pianist, black and white tile floor, flowers everywhere, and lush paint colors and velvet curtains adorning the walls. Everything is excellent, but we love their Bruschetta, the Filet Mignon, and please order an espresso martini for me.
- Meesh Meesh: We went here for Valentine’s Day last year and OH MY GOD please go. This gorgeous Mediterranean restaurant in NuLu is what dreams are made of if you love incredible food. The mains include a salatim platter, with olives, pickles, hummus, and so many other delightfully flavorful things, so honestly you cannot go wrong.
- North of Bourbon – North of Bourbon not only has the most Louisville name for a restaurant ever, you can actually EAT IN A GIANT BOUBON BARREL. You read that correctly. For a romantic meal, get the peppered catfish nuggets which is Louisiana catfish, house tiger sauce, and creole aioli. The fried chicken gumbo is amazing too (this is Nola inspired food after all) with chocolate roux, stone cross farms andouille & chicken, okra, trinity, file, fried chicken thigh, and anson mills carolina gold rice. And don’t forget oysters—they’re an aphrodisiac!
- Swizzle: If you want dinner with a view, we got you! Located in the Galt House, this restaurant on the top floor has views of the Ohio River you can’t beat. The restaurant is dark and romantic, perfect for peering over the city lights and leaning into a loved one. They have Oysters, Iced Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Prime Steaks, and so many other dishes that you might just say “I love you” to.
- Byrdie’s: Located in Hotel Genevieve, Byrdie’s is where “French elegance meets southern soul”. The food here is FANTASTIC, and we high recommend the Duck on the Orange (an orange Old Fashioned) or the Esmé Spritz (a cava drink) to start. For appetizers, the scallops come on the shell with delicious, creamy potatoes and we highly recommend the Pot du Jour soup (a flavorful leek, celery, hazelnut and pear blend) and the Byrdie’s House salad which is covered in cheese. The Tournedos Rossini is an incredible entree with American wagyu tenderloin, foie gras, and black truffle. You can’t go wrong here!

Get a Cocktail at a Hidden Speakeasy
Kentucky and bourbon go together like… well, like Kentucky and bourbon. Louisville is home to plenty of amazing bourbon bars, but the most romantic way to imbibe Louisville’s most iconic spirit is in a Speakeasy!
Prohibition was a huge deal for historic Louisville and many bourbon makers went under. But others just went underground. Today, you can relive the roaring 20s era in Louisville in one of its many speakeasies! … If you can find them, that is 😉.
- Hell or High Water: One of the most gorgeous bars anywhere, this speakeasy is located at an unmarked address underneath a nondescript room and behind a blank door. As you wind through the dark underground hallway of Hell or High Water you’ll wonder whether you’re at the right place… until you arrive. Decked out in dark red velvet and brick with a lounge, a library, and several secret rooms, all playing jazz age music, Hell or High Water feels like you’ve stepped back in time. The atmosphere is intimate and the drinks are absolutely top drawer. When you make your reservation, request to be seated in the Wardrobe Room 😉 Shhh, I can say no more…
- Pin & Proof: What’s better than a speakeasy? A speakeasy with its own bowling alley! With 4 lanes and a menu of drinks and bites that are yummy and romantic, this is anything but your typical bowling alley. Grab some friends and make it a double or triple Valentine’s Day date! Strike!
- Lucky Penny: Located in the Hotel Genevieve through the banana-yellow Mini Marché you’ll find a dark, quiet, Art Deco-inspired speakeasy. Decorated with cozy dark pink and navy accents, this is the perfect place to snuggle up with a cocktail, like the Moonbow with Bourbon, lime, Grenadine, Demerara, and Absinthe. If you’re getting dinner in NuLu, this is the perfect spot for drinks before or after dinner!
- Chicken Cock: Located in NuLu Marketplace, this cozy speakeasy is just the place to pop in for a drink during your date night! The speakeasy is located downstairs, in a dimly lit cellar perfect for snuggling on the couch.

Impress Your Date With Some Culutre
What says romance like strolling through a gorgeous museum hand in hand, pointing out artist’s techniques, talking about art history, and generally making impressive-sounding critiques? Or maybe seeing an amazing performance by the Ballet?
Whether you’re an art fanatic, a history buff, or you just want your date to think you’re a cultured smarty, there are a ton of awesome museums and arts in Louisville to get romantic with culture!
- Swan Lake at the Louisville Ballet: Looking for an amazing gift to give your hot date? The Louisville Ballet is performing Swan Lake on February 27-28, 2026, so you can have tickets to give your date on Valentine’s Day! Witness the legendary story of tragic love in one of the most iconic ballets of all time (to celebrate your romance which is very stable and not tragic). Set to Tchaikovsky’s heartwrenching score, and featuring new, locally-crafted sets, Swan Lake tells the spellbinding tale of two star-crossed souls and the evil forces that come between them. Prince Siegfried and the ethereal Odette fight to survive the spells of the wicked sorcerer Von Rothbart — but can true love break the curse?
- Speed Art Museum: Located in Old Louisville adjacent to the University of Louisville’s campus, the recently renovated Speed Art Museum is the oldest, largest, and foremost museum of art in Kentucky. Called one of “The World’s Most Beautiful New Museums“, the museum features rotating exhibitions on a diverse array of ancient, classical, and modern art.
- Museum Row: If you want to visit multiple museums on your Valentine’s Day Date, the stretch of historic downtown on West Main Street is home to Museum Row, a conveniently located collection of many of the best museums in Louisville. Our favorites are, in no specific order… 21C Museum, as we mentioned before, has the coolest contemporary art museum slash hotel ever. The Frazier History Museum, where you can peruse ancient weapons while learning about history through eerily realistic giant wax figurines, miniatures, a large bourbon exhibit, and expertly acted re-enactments and choreographed fights (Louisville is a theatre city, remember?). The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is the best place to take fans of baseball – it’s where all the Louisville Slugger bats are made. Yes, all of them! The Muhammad Ali Center is all about Ali’s illustrious boxing career to the man himself – including all of his flaws – as well as the racist and conflicted society from which he emerged.

Rent a Cabin with a Hot Tub at Red River Gorge
Red River Gorge is the epitome of beauty in Kentucky, where you can hike arduous trails from ridges to gorges, cross natural bridges, and even climb the crags, but the best may be cuddling up in a hot tub for Valentine’s Day!
My main pre-rec for a cabin is of course – does it have a hot tub? Because I do not want to be in the forest without some of that warm hot tub action! All of the cabins below have hot tubs, and they are all located close by the Red River Gorge so you can have a magical romantic getaway!
Here are some great options:
- This snuggly little pastoral cabin in the mountains is just 9.2 miles from Natural Bridge, but feels miles away from the crowds! You’ll be as cozy as a bear in a cave in the homey interior, around the firepit, or in the hot tub on the wrap-around porch counting stars. The grounds are so lush and vibrant!
- Always chasing the perfect sunrise? This beautiful cabin is nestled on a farm that creates a breathtaking view to drink your coffee and watch the rising sun and is only 20 minutes away from RRG. In the evening perch up on the large porch where you can sit in the hot tub, sip a cup of wine or bourbon, and take in the full farm aesthetic!
- This cozy spot is a newer-styled cabin and is secluded on 160 acres of primarily wooded land! You’ll find a serene pond with a deck overlooking the water, a fire pit, and a covered deck that has rocking chairs and a pub table. The location is private yet close to everything you need at Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge.
